Deborah J Mitchell

STATEMENT

The pull between culture and nature are two opposing elements that have directed the course of my life, and this balancing act has become integral to my artistic expression.
My ongoing series, “Gardens I’ve Known” has been inspired by my early life and more recent international travels. I have traveled specifically to search out famous gardens from Central Park and Boboli, to Butchart, Gezi, and Alhambra.

Since the advent of COVID 19 I find my artistic expression is focused on creating my own garden and making monotypes or painting the inspiration I find there every day. My goal is to share this garden, my aesthetic place for creation and contemplation, through teaching in the Garden Gallery and Open-Air Classroom. I hope you will join me.

I teach drawing, perspective, watercolor, printmaking, and mosaic to groups and individuals. Please visit my website for a full description of what I offer. www.DeborahMitchellArtist.com

On behalf of the Rapid City Arts Council, the Dahl staff, Board of Directors, and our volunteers, we would like to express our sincere gratitude and thank the City of Rapid City for their ongoing support of our organization. It is because of support like this that we are able to continue to fulfill our mission to champion inclusive, innovative and inspired arts opportunities to enrich the communities we serve.

The Rapid City Arts Council receives support from generous members and donors, the City of Rapid City,  SD Community Foundation, and the South Dakota Arts Council with funds from the State of South Dakota, through the Department of Tourism and the National Endowment for the Arts. Special thanks to Bierschbach Equipment and Supply and Dakota Business Center, Carter Taylor.

The Dahl Arts Center is a municipal facility managed by the Rapid City Arts Council and owned by the City of Rapid City.
