ABOUT THE SERIES...
Just as some people inherit their father’s
eyes or their mother’s hairline, talent seems to be a trait that can run
in families. Be it nature or nurture, the Rapid City Arts Council’s
Winter Music Series is featuring some of the area’s top talent with
their children who are following in the family tradition of music. The
Rapid City Arts Council's Winter Music Series 2010- The Next Generation
provides a unique performance opportunity for the young emerging
artists.
The Winter Music Series kicks-off on January 9, with “The Voice of the
Great Plains” Chuck Suchy. Chuck Suchy, a nationally acclaimed singer,
songwriter, musician and storyteller, appeared as a headliner in the
Black Hills Bluegrass Festival in 2009. Chuck’s son Ben, a singer song
writer and performer in his own right, will open the show. Father and
son music men perform a show together for the first time in South
Dakota. Ben is an Americana music performer credited with developing a
music form called "Stomp Grass."
The series continues on January 30, Dakota Voices and The Black Hills
Trio perform separately and together in a classical music and vocal
concert. The concert is billed as “the finest classical vocalists in the
Black Hills with our finest classical musicians.” The Black Hills Trio
is made up of local classical music legends Dr. Janeen Larson piano, Liz
Benusis cello, and Coral White violin. Dr. Jim and Michelle Feiszli, two
of the featured vocal talents of Dakota Voices, will share the talent of
their daughter Rachel in an opening performance.
